Tragically Hip - Lake Fever

When touring in Canada they play to sold-out arenas; when touring in the United States they play smaller venues and clubs, or festivals where they are not the headliner. Performances abroad are usually attended by Canadian expatriates.

I always found this interesting; why some Canadians band excel beyond measure in their native country yet cannot break through to the neighbours down south. What is it about the Hip that is so Canadian? I mean, for a country lacking in any form of definitive identity, I can understand the need to latch on to something as comforting and reminscent of home. However, I feel like this shouldn’t limit them to just the ten provinces. I’d argue that the Hip, as musicians, transcend that- their songs have always been clever and well-crafted- why don’t they get the recognition they deserve?

I agree completely and I have no idea why. It’s the same with Sam Roberts. He’s so great but barely anyone knows him outside of Canada. Funny how out of all Canadian bands, Nickelback is the one who wins in America. I don’t understand!!

Auto-reblog for The Hip. Must go find guitar now..

Also, I changed the avatar. Celine Dion is shocked and apalled that she will never be featured on this blog.

New Orleans is Sinking by the Tragically Hip

I remember the day after Katrina hit, the University of Toronto radio station played this song, saying “we’re probably not the only ones playing this today” when they totally were the only ones playing it, because they are a bunch of douches, apparently.
